Hosta Jaws

Hosta Jaws - There are many hosta plants available, both extremely large and others that are much smaller. With all of these plants there are unique characteristics and distinguishable markings. Hostas are best known for their large size and huge leaves; however there are some that are very small, but just as interesting as the larger hostas available. Choosing which hostas to plant will be based on room available and the design you are trying to create. Mixing both the large and small together works very well and is actually a common practice to create many unique and different color variations and patterns.

One such interesting hosta plant is Jaws. This particular plant gets its name from the serrated leaves that grow on it. It is actually a very small plant but very powerful regardless of it’s size. This is one of the smaller hosta plants available. However, regardless of the size the serrated edge actually has a bite to it, meaning that if you brush up against it or rub up near it, the serrated edge will actually bite onto you.

The Hosta Jaws plant is a very deep green in color. It has a very intense look to it with the serrated edges and the rich color to go along with it. The leaves actually undulate or look wavy on the plant and the leaves are very thick and tough. There are also what will look lines running through it as well. Since they are so thick and tough it can take being handled roughly and it will not affect it poorly. It is very hardy and can withstand tough conditions and circumstances.

Also, the Hosta Jaws grows very well in full sun unlike, some of the other breeds of hosta plants that can only withstand partial sun or even no sun at all. Jaws does very well in the sun, however for the plant to achieve the darkest green possible, it will need some shade. So, planting this hosta under the larger hostas works well to achieve the dark green, but still keep it on display and for it to be in the sun as well. If you are looking for a sturdy hosta for the sun and developing the rich green color is not as much as an issue than this is definitely the plant to purchase.

Because of its small size, it does work well with other plants. It can still be placed under the larger hosta plants to add dimension and additional color to your garden. However, you will probably not want to place it next the more delicate hosta plants, because of the serrated edges of the leaves. Since, it is so hardy it will do well in both sun and shade and that is a definite advantage with this plant. Using this particular plant to add to your garden and designing a garden that will showcase this small but sturdy plant will work best. It has average watering needs, so again placing the plant under other hostas will work as long as the soil stays moist at all times around it.

Hosta Jaws is an interesting and unique plant. That if you can find this particular hosta to add to your garden, you will not be disappointed with. Hosta Jaws is the type of plant that will make others stop and stare. Also, with its sturdiness and easy maintenance it would be a wonderful addition to any garden.
